ECOLOGICAL ACHIEVEMENTSGARDEN TOWN- it was created on the foundations of the historical park and palace complex - characterized by high quality town layout - each inhabitant is guaranteed 360 square meters of green area, which is 20% more than the level recommended by the WHO CLEAN AIR • new solutions for the town’s transport system aimed at limiting air and noise pollution: - ring road construction with a new bridge across the Vistula River - introduction of cycle lanes - conversion of city buses into those containing engines complying to EURO III standards of environmental protection • modernization of heating systems in order to - limit heat loss - rationalize supplies - limit heat usage • limiting the pollution emitted by Zakłady Azotowe – Fertilizer Plant „Pulawy” (realization of the Ecological Adaptive Program) DRINKING WATER • high quality water, not requiring purification • deep water intake from Cretaceous layers • water from waterworks reaches 99,6% of inhabitants • a modernized water supply service: - is sufficient for town development until 2030 - guarantees reliability of the water supply system EFFICIENT SEWAGE MANAGEMENT • 96.4% of inhabitants use the sewage system • a modernized bio-mechanical sewage treatment plant - guarantees high level of sewage treatment - uses renewable energy produced from sewage residue and the organic fraction of solid waste • sewage residue can be used in agriculture, in cultivation of green and barren areas RAIN WATER PURIFICATION • rain water collected from 1/3 of the town area is purified in the Rain Water Purification Plant • rain water from the remaining 2/3 of the town area is purified by means of a special separator • from the beginning of 2005 100% of the rain water coming from the town area has been purified MANAGEMENT OF COMMUNAL WASTE Communal Waste Treatment Plant: - reaches European standards - prepares the organic fraction of communal waste for use by the sewage treatment plant - reduces the amount on the rubbish dumps by 40-50% Selective collection of communal waste includes: - segregation of glass, paper, plastic „from the start” - collection of bulky waste - collection of hazardous waste including batteries and out-of-date medicine - collection of aluminum cans by school children
