Town Council

The Town Council lays down the local law and controls its execution. Among its duties is deciding in all public cases oriented at satisfying collective needs of the town community.

Puławy inhabitants choose 23 members of the council. The term of office lasts 4 years - counting from the day of its election. Work of the Council is managed by the President of the Town Council with the help of two Vice-Presidents, chosen by the Council.

The Town Council holds debates on sessions and acts through its members in the Council's commissions. The Town Council sessions are held every 3-4 weeks on Thursdays at 16:00. The Council's sessions are public. Information concerning the venue, date and subject-matter of the session are made public for the inhabitants no later than 3 days before the planned session.

The Town Council provides access to the session protocols according to the rule of public openness. The inhabitants are also given access to the Town Council's resolutions.

Among the exclusive and inalienable competences of the Town Council is:

- town statute resolution,
- town budget resolution, budget reports investigation,
- passing resolutions concerning taxes and payments,
- passing resolutions concerning financial issues of the town,
- local arrangement plans resolution,
- economic programmes resolution,
- defining scope of activity of auxiliary units,
- passing resolutions concerning cooperation with other communities,
- passing resolutions concerning town crest, names of the streets and public squares, as well as raising monuments,
- giving the title of the honorary citizen,
- appointing and dismissing the Town Treasurer who is the main Budget Accountant as well as the Town Secretary on Mayor's application,
- establishing the Town Mayor's salary, the directions of his actions, and accepting reports of his activity.

President of the Town Council and the Vice-Presidents see the inhabitants every Tuesday from 15:30 to 17.00, according to the appointed time schedule.
